The Hain Daniels Grocery factory at Histon, Cambridgeshire is one of the largest Preserves and Jellies factory in Europe with circa 400 employees. Well-known brands produced at the site include Hartley’s, Robertson’s, and Frank Coopers.

Following a successful programme in 2018, we asked Ian to carry out a further 9 month Operational Excellence Programme with ourselves from the winter to the summer of 2019/20 at the factory which involved:

  • Developing and implementing a Strategy Deployment Process (Hoshin Kanri) and 3-year plan for the site.
  • Creation and agreement of a series of Histon relevant tools and techniques (‘Playbook’).
  • Training, coaching, and assessing the team in ‘Playbook’ techniques to develop the Operational Excellence Culture on site.
  • Mentoring 2 Lean Six Sigma Black Belt department CI Leaders on site.
  • Facilitating the achievement of ‘way of life’ levels of Lean Maturity across 4 key departments (2 Production, Engineering and Technical).
  • Installing Lean fundamentals in preparation for TPM deployment

The Histon Factory has had a very successful financial year across many Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost and Morale KPIs. It is recognised within the company that our Operational Excellence Strategy has played a key role in delivering these results and provided the foundation for achievement of our strategic plans.

The programme was carried out within particularly challenging circumstances owing to Covid 19. Ian and the Senior Team were able to flex the approach to deal with any obstacles that arose.

Ian is a highly experienced Lean and Six Sigma Consultant. His style is very personable, and he is extremely comfortable working and influencing all levels of an organisation. He challenges people to improve but does this in the ‘right way’.
